Will there be a public race in Zurich where I can ride on the official racecourse of the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships? The Local Organising Committee (LOC) Zurich 2024 is asked this question every day. Now we are revealing the answer: three special treats await enthusiastic amateur and hobby cyclists at the 2024 UCI Worlds. With the “Charity Ride”, the “Legends Race” and the “City Race”, the LOC is hosting three events on the official routes – a unique opportunity to measure up with the cycling greats. Registration for the races will be possible from 15 May 2024, when the official ticket provider Ticketmaster launches ticket sales for the global cycling event in September.
Zurich 2024 will cater not only to the world’s best cyclists, but also allow the general public – and especially its cycling community – to feel and experience a real racing atmosphere first-hand. The “Charity Ride”, the “Legends Race” individual time trial and the mass start “City Race” will provide participants with impressive experiences and memories from the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships. All events are open to riders with and without disabilities; the ability level is not relevant. The respective race routes will be completely closed for the three events and secured with marshals. Detailed information on the individual events and the exact start times can be found at https://zurich2024.com/en/public-races/.
Charity Ride: for a good cause – Saturday, 21 September 2024
As the name suggests, the “Charity Ride” – on the opening day of the UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships – is not a race, but a ride. It leads from Zurich to Feldmeilen and back, covering 24.9km, with the start and finish at Sechseläutenplatz. A maximum of 600 participants will be able to participate.
Legends Race: the individual dual – Sunday, 22 September 2024
A maximum of 270 participants will have the chance to race against the clock on the official UCI World Championships course from Gossau ZH to Zurich. The riders will start at intervals of 20 seconds, then tackle the 29.9km course as they become one with themselves and their bike until the finish. This will be a truly immersive UCI World Championships experience, as the Women’s tandem and cycle para-cycling athletes as well as the Women Elite will be riding the same course on the same day in their bid for the prestigious rainbow jersey.
City Race: in the really huge peloton – Sunday, 29 September 2024
The 26,8km City Circuit is the centrepiece of the road races and, depending on the category, will be ridden up to seven times by the world’s best non-para and para-cyclists at the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships. In the City Race, a maximum of 900 riders will climb the slope up to Fluntern church, head up to Witikon, then turn via Binz and Sennhof towards Küsnacht, where the steep descent leads down to the lake and the long final section to Sechseläutenplatz. After this endeavour, all participants know what awaits the Men Elite cyclists later that day for the finale of their road race.
Registration
From 15 May 2024, registrations can be made exclusively via the portal of www.Ticketmaster.ch, the official ticket provider. An entry fee must be paid for participation. The services include the right to participate, a start number and, if applicable, timekeeping, memberships with partner organisations, which will be communicated in the coming days, and the creation of a ranking list. All participants will also receive a commemorative gift.
