The Swiss family business Planzer will support the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships Zurich as Official Supplier Logistics. The company will provide transport vehicles, drivers and storage space for the global cycling festival next September and serve as a hub for material logistics.
With just about three months to go until the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships in Zurich, Switzerland, logistical matters are increasingly coming to the fore for the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Zurich 2024. On the one hand, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) will bring special facilities and equipment to Zurich for the organisation of the competitions. On the other hand, LOC Zurich 2024 will also have large quantities of materials produced, which will have to be stored centrally and transported to the start locations of Zurich, Uster, Gossau and Winterthur shortly before the UCI Road World Championships, which start on 21 September.
In the right place at the right time
To ensure the complex logistical planning and coordination, LOC Zurich 2024 can count on the expertise and experience of Planzer. As Official Supplier Logistics, the third-generation family-run company will ensure the storage and timely delivery of the materials. Planzer will provide various delivery vehicles, including drivers, to handle the complex preparation and set-up work for the UCI Worlds. These include the familiar beige parcel delivery vehicles with the curved red Planzer logo as well as large lorries. Planzer supports the goals of the Zurich 2024 sustainability charter and will also be using electric lorries. In addition, to increase the new partner’s integration into the event, a Planzer vehicle will be the traditional “broom wagon” for the road races.
Severin Baer, member of the Board of Directors and management board at Planzer, who is responsible for the ‘National Transport’ and ‘Parcel Service’ divisions, stated: “The collaboration with the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships Zurich is another milestone in our cooperation with various major events in Switzerland. We are proud to be able to contribute to the success of these unique UCI World Championships with our vans, drivers and storage space.”
Nearby hub ensures short distances
As part of the collaboration, LOC Zurich will have access to space at the Planzer site in Zurich Altstetten. This hub is ideally located close to the LOC office in Zurich, the start locations and the fan zones around the lake basin and the City Circuit.
Daniel Rupf, managing director of LOC Zurich 2024, is delighted to welcome Planzer, another traditional company from the greater Zurich area, to the Zurich 2024 family. “We would like to thank Planzer and the team led by Severin Baer for the trustful discussions and the huge commitment over the past few months. With Planzer at our side, we know we are in good hands when it comes to logistics.”
