Yamaha motorbikes complete the support line-up

The vehicle fleet for the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships is now complete: hostettler ag, general importer for Yamaha motorbikes and scooters in Switzerland, is supporting the global cycling event next September as Official Motorbike Supplier.

As part of the cooperation, hostettler ag is providing a total of 44 Yamaha motorbikes for three weeks. With this commitment in the area of vehicles required for the various needs of the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships Zurich, the Sursee-based family business joins the Emil Frey Group with its Kia brand and the logistics company Planzer, thus covering the final part of the demand for support and transport vehicles.

Safety escort for the cyclists

During the time trials, all participants are individually accompanied by a motorbike. This safety service guarantees that the racers can ride the course without any obstacles. In the road races, the motorbikes and their riders act as a vanguard to ensure that all obstacles are secured, all crossing points are manned and there are no spectators on the route.

Also used by photographers, doctors and for timekeeping

Commissaires, cameramen, photographers and doctors are also piloted through the races as pillion riders on the motorbikes. Moreover, the motorbikes are used for timekeeping tasks. The motorbike riders are specially trained and educated for the demanding steering of the vehicles in pelotons and other situations.

“The 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships in Zurich are a fantastic addition to our long-standing commitment to the cycling world,” said Vincent Mentha, Managing Director of the Yamaha Division at hostettler ag. “Once again, we can make a significant contribution to the safe organisation of a global cycling event with our tried-and-tested Yamaha motorbikes.”

Olivier Senn, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Sport of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Zurich 2024, is grateful to have hostettler ag and Yamaha as Official Motorbike Suppliers for the this year’s UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships. “With their experience from over 30 years of cooperation with the Tour de Suisse, they are the ideal partner for the detailed race organisation during these UCI World Championships.”

Manoeuvrability and sporty driving performance as trump cards

The Yamaha support fleet for Zurich 2024 includes TRACER 9 GT and NIKEN GT. The TRACER 9 GT will be used for the first time this year for the security service on cycle tours. It is equipped with a powerful 890 cc CP3 engine, an agile aluminium frame and advanced electronics such as the 6-axis IMU, traction control and cruise control. Its versatility and reliability make it the ideal choice for the demanding tasks of a security escort.
