Zurich 2024: comprehensive traffic information available

The 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships Zurich, which will take place from 21 to 29 September, will have a major impact on traffic. The Canton and City of Zurich, together with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Zurich 2024, the Zurich Transport Network (ZVV) and Zurich Public Transport (VBZ) are providing comprehensive information on traffic organisation. All journeys in and around the city of Zurich will require more time during the major event.

The organisation of the global cycling event will result in numerous adjustments to traffic routing and traffic restrictions in the city and region of Zurich. Different traffic regulations will apply depending on the race day and programme. With regard to road closures, the principle of “as much as necessary, as little as possible” has been applied; this is also to ensure the safety of the participating athletes, the accompanying teams and spectators along the routes. Access to health facilities remains guaranteed. Emergencies have priority at all times.

Websites and GIS browser of the canton as central platforms

All relevant information can be found on the websites of Zurich 2024, the Canton and the City of Zurich (see page 2 for a list of links). The traffic organisation is presented quickly, simply and clearly on the Canton of Zurich’s GIS browser.

The municipalities affected by the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships will play an important role. In close cooperation with the canton and the LOC, they will create an information programme tailored to the needs of their respective populations.

Travelling by train or bike

All road users should allow more time than usual for travelling in and around Zurich. It is strongly recommended that people refrain from travelling by car during the event.

The best way to get to the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships area is by train or bicycle. The Swiss Federal Railways train service will run according to the usual timetable, as will the Forchbahn railway. Cyclists, on the other hand, can easily reach the fan zones in the city centre and can, for example, park their bikes in secure bike parking areas.

Special timetable for tram and bus

Tram and bus services will be restricted in various neighbourhoods in the City of Zurich and in the Canton of Zurich. There will be a special timetable for the 2024 UCI Road World Championships, which will be published in due course. The best connections will be available in real time via the ZVV online timetable or the ZVV app.

Further communication waves planned

The range of information will be continuously expanded over the coming months. The canton, city and LOC will launch further waves of communication before and after the summer holidays. Communication on transport will be further intensified before and during the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships in September.
