Zurich 2024 welcomes another ambassador for the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships in Switzerland: Representing music and society, Ritschi joins the high-calibre quintet of previously announced cycling and para-cycling ambassadors: Fabian Cancellara, Fabian Recher, Flurina Rigling, Marlen Reusser and Stefan Küng. The singer, who enthrals the public with his numerous hits, is a big cycling fan in his private life and has dedicated a song to the bike. Moreover, Ritschi will also perform live on stage with a concert on Sechseläutenplatz as part of the various events accompanying the UCI Worlds.
Top performances are not only required in sport, but also in music. One of the top artists in Switzerland is, without doubt, Ritschi, who has been an integral part of the national music scene for over 20 years. LOC Zurich 2024 is proud to present the singer, lyricist and musician as the sixth ambassador for the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships, which will take place in Zurich and the surrounding area next September.
“Velo” – a power song in difficult times
The virtuoso stage artist Ritschi is also a keen cyclist. In 2020, he dedicated the song “Velo” (bicycle), which was written during the coronavirus pandemic, to the bike. During that time, he discovered mountain biking as a sporting balance and spent a lot of time on the saddle. The singer is also regularly out and about on his bike with his two children.
“I am very happy and proud to be representing the 2024 UCI Road and Para-cycling Road World Championships in Zurich as an ambassador together with international stars Marlen Reusser, Stefan Küng, Flurina Rigling and Fabian Recher as well as former UCI World Champion and Olympic Champion Fabian Cancellara,” Ritschi stated. “Cycling has become an important part of my life. That’s why I’m particularly pleased to be able to combine my art with this great sport.”
Ambassador and live on stage at Sechseläutenplatz
In addition to his role as ambassador, Ritschi will also be performing live on stage at Sechseläutenplatz in Zurich. The supporting programme for the nine-day global cycling event from 21 to 29 September 2024 will be announced in a few weeks and will include Ritschi as well as various additional top acts and other show and entertainment elements.
The medal ceremonies will of course also be highlights of the supporting programme. As part of the historic sporting premiere, where the UCI Road World Championships and UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships are combined into one event dedicated solely to road, 66 winners will be able to don the coveted rainbow jersey.
